Biography

Giacomo Como is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and at the Automatic Control Department of Lund University, Sweden. He received the B.Sc., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Mathematics from Politecnico di Torino, in 2002, 2004, and 2008, respectively. He was a Visiting Assistant in Research at Yale University in 2006-2007 and a Postdoctoral Associate at the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from 2008 to 2011.

He currently serves as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering and of the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems, and as chair of the IEEE-CSS Technical Committee on Networks and Communication Systems. He is also a Guest Editor for a Special Issue on "Dynamics and Behaviors in Social Networks" of the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems and a Guest Associate Editor of a Special Section on "Mathematical Modeling, Analysis, and Control of Epidemics" in the SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization. He was the IPC chair of the IFAC Workshop NecSys 2015 and a semi-plenary speaker at the International Symposium MTNS 2016 and the SICE ISCS 2017. He is a recipient of the 2015 George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award. His research interests are in dynamics, information, and control in network systems with applications to cyber-physical systems, infrastructure networks, and social and economic networks.

Biography

Laura Giarré received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering from the Universitá di Firenze, Italy, and the Ph.D. degree in system engineering from the Universitá di Bologna, Italy, in 1986 and 1992, respectively. She has held visiting positions at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California at Santa Barbara, CA, USA, and the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems and Computer Science Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA, in 1999, 2006, and 2015, respectively. Since 1993, she has been an Assistant Professor with the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, and an Associate Professor with the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, since 1998. Her research interests include networked systems, according to a game theoretical approach with applications to WiFi networks, sensor networks, inventory networks, and smart grid. She worked also on identification of LPV, nonlinear and networked systems, and e-health solutions for interoperability. In 2013, she received the national qualification (ASN) for full professor. She served as an Associate Editor of Systems and Control Letters from 1999 to 2011 and the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control from 2012 to 2015. In 2010, she was the Vice Chair of SING6 and the General Chair of the IEEE MED in 2014. She has recently developed an interest in assistive technology for visually impaired persons, organizing and chairing three workshops (2012 Pisa, 2013 Boston, 2015 Milan EXPO) on this theme, and co-founded the startup insight to develop systems enhancing senses through technology for which she is the CEO.
