Welcome to the Technical Committee on Discrete Event Systems (DESTC), a part of the IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Activities Board. The DESTC was established on June 1, 1999, and subsumes the activities of the Working Group on Discrete Event Systems.

A discrete event system is a dynamic system with discrete states the transitions of which are triggered by events. This provides a general framework for many man-made systems where the system dynamics not only follow physical laws but also man-made rules. It is difficult to describe the dynamics of these systems using closed-form expressions. In many cases simulation is the only faithful way to describe the system dynamics and for performance evaluation. It is the focus of this TC to promote the research on performance analysis, evaluation, and optimization of discrete event systems. The interested topics include but are not limited to:

  • Theory and applications of discrete event systems
  • Deterministic and stochastic event-based models
  • Supervisory control
  • Optimization of discrete event systems
  • Discrete event simulation
  • Performance analysis tools

Mission Statement:

The DESTC aims to promote communication between DES researchers, scholars, students, and practitioners. We encourage participation by submitting contributions (announcements, articles, etc.) to the monthly newsletter.
