Biography

A. Pedro Aguiar is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP). His research focuses on control systems (theory and applications) with contributions spanning motion planning, guidance, navigation, and control of autonomous robotic vehicles; nonlinear control theory; networked and cyber-physical systems; optimization-based and learning-based control; and quantum feedback systems. He previously held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Control, Dynamical-Systems, and Computation at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2002–2005), and as a senior researcher and invited professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon (2005–2012). He has been a faculty member at FEUP since 2012. He currently serves as Director of ARISE – the Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems Associate Laboratory, Scientific Coordinator of SYSTEC – the Research Center for Systems and Technologies, and Head of the Cyber-Physical Control Systems and Robotics Laboratory. He has led numerous national and international research and development projects and serves as Associate Editor of Automatica (since 2011), Senior Editor of IEEE Control Systems Letters (and AE since 2017), and Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2020–2025).
