Biography

Fabrizio Dabbene (IEEE Fellow) received the Laurea degree in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree in Systems and Computer Engineering in 1999, both from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Since 2001 he is with the IEIIT institute of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy, where he is currently a Director of Research and he coordinates the Information and Systems Engineering (ISE) Group. He has held visiting and research positions at the University of Iowa, Penn State University, and the Institute of Control Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).

His research interests include data-driven methods for machine learning and control, with applications to aerospace, agriculture 4.0, biorobotics, and tecno-social networks. He held visiting and research positions at Univ.of Iowa, Penn State Univ. and RAS Institute of Control Sciences (Moscow). On these topics, he has published more than 200 research papers and two books, and he is recipient of the 2010 and 2023 EurAgeng Outstanding Paper Award.

He served as an Elected Member of the IEEE Control Systems Society Board of Governors (2014–2016) and as Vice President for Publications (2015–2016) and Chair of the IEEE-CSS Italy Chapter (2019-2024). He is currently Chair of the IEEE-CSS Technology Conference Editorial Board. He has served as Associate Editor of Automatica (2008–2014) and IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2008–2012), and as Senior Editor of IEEE Control Systems Society Letters (2018–2023) and IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology (2024–2025). Since 2023, he has been the Italian NMO representative to IFAC. He is a recipient of the 2024 IEEE CSS Distinguished Member Award and of the 2025 IEEE Italy Section Distinguished Service Award.
