Biography

Prof. Garone received his Ph.D. in systems engineering in 2009 from University of Calabria, Italy. Since 2010 he is professor of Control and System theory at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. The main research focus of Prof. Garone is constrained control, with a particular emphasis on -computational cost schemes for nonlinear systems. Most notably, Prof. Garone conceived Explicit Reference Governor framework and is one of the world leaders in the Reference Governor community. Besides a number of contributions on the subject, he co-authored as first author the only survey on Reference Governors. The other main interest of Prof. Garone concerns problems coupling estimation problems with optimization and logistics aspects, including but not limited to optimal sensor selections, optimal planning for data collection, and control over unreliable channels. Prof. Garone is also very active in applying the system theoretic approach to a large spectrum of real-world applications, ranging from robotics and aeronautics problems, to the control of the fast charge of Li-ion battery, and exotic applications like epidemiology and agronomy.
