CSS Outreach Fund Solicitation

The CSS Outreach Fund awards grants for projects designed to benefit CSS members and the broader Automatic Control community. Since its establishment in 2011, the Fund has supported more than 80 project activities on outreach, education and promotion of Automatic Control, led by international groups of CSS members. The Diversity, Outreach & Development Activities (DODA) Board is the body responsible for proposal review and approval.

The maximum amount granted for an Outreach project is USD$20K and applications can be submitted at any point and the revision process duration is approximately 1 month.

Would you like to learn more about the program and have an exciting idea for an activity? Please contact Silvia Mastellone, Outreach Task Force Chair, [email protected], or Karl H. Johansson, CSS VP DODA, [email protected]. We look forward to your contribution!

Examples of projects that we can support include (not an exhaustive list):

  • Outreach activities for pre-university students and teachers
  • Outreach activities for developing nations
  • Promotional materials for CSS or the field
  • Workshops on control-related topics
  • CSS membership drives

Application Guidelines

CSS members who are interested in applying for projects funds are asked to prepare a proposal accordingly to the guidelines provided in the following instructions.  Guidelines

The Outreach Fund can be used to support students, to support administrative or support staff, and for material expenditures (including subcontracts) and travel.  The Fund cannot be used for salaries of working professionals in the field, including faculty and researchers in industry.  The Fund cannot directly support any for-profit activity.  Proposals to fund scientific research will not be considered.

In some cases, contracts may need to be executed with IEEE before projects can be initiated.  IEEE guidelines and requirements for contracts must be satisfied in these cases.  The Outreach Fund committee will work with proposers to facilitate and expedite this process. Please contact the chair of the Outreach Fund directly should you require additional information.
